We Picture the Paradox of Winter Warmth
HOT off the presses. ACT NOW! I was looking at my calendar from last year and discovered that last year at this time we had one of our seasonal January thaws. I mean a bold one. 60 degrees! Not so January 2025. This year is quite the winter in Indiana, PA! Our artists have responded. Winter Warmth. It's quite a paradox to feel the polar vortex AND the warmth brought about by turning inward toward one's creative fires.
Nine artists bring us beauty in the hardship of our Western Pennsylvania winter. I hope you will join me and them at our opening reception celebrating this collection (and warming our fingers and toes).
It makes me wonder. What if we were to somehow LOSE winter? Sure some of us would be happy to do away with scraping snow and traveling slippery by-ways. But hey now, doesn't the dormant season help us gather ourselves to new possibilities? To new growth? To new abundance?
In her 2020 book, Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times, author Katherine May reflects on the power of "wintering" in its literal and figurative forms. What is your "wintering?" Join us for a casual evening of some light refreshments this Friday. Maybe you'll come away with your own Winter Warmth.
Congratulations to Mary and Dave Bonzo, winning Mark Altrogge's stunning tribute to Indiana this Winter. "A Wonderful Life." The Bonzo's have generously shared the painting with The Jimmy Stewart Museum above the Indiana Library where it is being displayed. Go check it out and enjoy the museum's collection.
