Growing Our Own Way: Indiana High Senior Art Exhibit 2024

"Growing Our Own Way" is the title that Beth Porter’s senior art students gave to their upcoming exhibit at the Hand. I have to tell you. This is one of my favorite traditions in the gallery. Each year we get to be awestruck by beautiful imaginations, and the earnest creative ideas of these young artists emerging into adulthood. We get to celebrate them with a month of their own making.

About AWE

I read recently about awe, and how important it can be to experience.  It turns out that awesome beauty is in the pause. To experience awe we need to mind the three letters that form it. Pay Attention, Wait, and be open to Experience.

As reported in The Observer, “The physiological experience of awe – goosebumps, dropped jaws, caught breath – is wonderful in itself, but research suggests that regularly feeling wonder can have a range of benefits for our physical and mental wellbeing as well as increasing our compassion, generosity and critical thinking ability. In the words of psychology professor Dacher Keltner, co-founder of the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley, awe “sharpens our brains”.”

Let' s be in awe of these young ones as they continue towards graduation.
